The Alarm Monitoring Station can leverage IP speakers to enable monitoring guards to transmit their live or pre-recorded voice messages to specific areas for public address or security/surveillance needs. This guide will detail the necessary steps for setting up an IP speaker device correctly in the Admin Portal and, subsequently, in the Alarm Monitoring Station.
1. Connect the IP speaker to the network
First, make sure a proper connection is established for the speaker device to an existing IP network. If you're not familiar with initializing an IP speaker device, check the system manufacturer's guide or documentation for detailed instructions. This resource provides step-by-step guidance and clarifies the specific parameters needed for the addition process.
Note, that the audio compression codec of the IP speaker needs to be set to G.711U.
2. Add the IP speaker in the Admin Portal
Navigate to the Cameras menu tab and click the green Add button to register the IP speaker, following the same procedure used for adding a camera device. Ensure that the Mic function is activated within the General tab of the added IP speaker device. For a comprehensive tutorial on adding devices, consult the associated articles for the P&P method↗️, ONVIF URL method↗️ or ONVIF Registration Code method↗️.
After successfully adding and associating the device with a customer, you have the option to include a description for the speaker and/or provide specific instructions for the device. These details will be displayed in the acknowledgement window of the Alarm Monitoring Station. You can format the instructions according to your preferences using Markup; for a detailed guide, refer to the corresponding article↗️.
3. Add the IP speaker to the appropriate guard roles
If you plan to use the IP speaker with multiple guard users, start by creating the necessary guard roles and assigning the relevant permissions. Within the customer account containing the added IP speaker, navigate to the Roles menu and click the green Add button to create a new customizable guard role. After creating the role, click on it to manage the settings, ensuring that the IP speaker is enabled by ticking the check-mark. For a comprehensive guide on roles and users, refer to the following article↗️.
4. Set up the IP speaker in the Alarm Monitoring Station
To use the IP speaker in the Alarm Monitoring Station, log in with the guard user assigned the role you created earlier. Navigate to the Cameras menu, search for the IP speaker by its assigned name in the search field, or find it in the Offline tab. Drag the IP speaker into your layout. Access the camera controls of the IP speaker, click the Microphone icon, and grant your browser permission to access the microphone via the Alarm Monitoring Station. You can now begin using the microphone to transmit audio through the IP speaker.
