Objects are detected outside of the motion mask area

It is possible for objects outside of the motion mask to be detected by smart analytics, leading to alerts being sent. This typically occurs with cameras that do not comply with ONVIF for motion detection configuration, meaning the ONVIF method to retrieve the motion mask does not work.

For instance, Axis and Vivotek cameras use proprietary methods to configure motion detection and are not ONVIF compliant in this area. In such cases, a message will indicate that motion detection and/or other detectors are not available.

Here is an example of how a motion mask was configured with the aim to detect motion only in the front yard:

but nevertheless, object detection still reports vehicles on the road any time there is any motion detected and the vehicle is moving.

At the moment there is nothing that can be done to completely avoid the detection of objects outside of the motion mask, but it is possible to minimize the false events by fine-tuning the motion detection configuration on the camera. Make sure that the camera is not detecting too many false events, this will decrease the probability that an object outside of the motion mask will be detected.

We are constantly looking into ways to incorporate other configuration protocols and manufacturers often release firmware updates in which ONVIF compatibility is improved.
