Smart analytics detects false objects or stationary objects

Under certain challenging conditions, even advanced server-side analytics may misclassify certain areas of the scene as objects or report stationary objects as moving objects. This can result in false alerts.

The following are common situations that may cause false object detection:

1. Objects Detected Outside the Motion Mask

➜ Objects may sometimes be detected outside the configured motion mask.

Possible cause:
This typically occurs when the camera does not support ONVIF motion-detection configuration. In such cases, Smart Analytics may not be able to retrieve or use the camera's motion mask correctly.

Troubleshooting:
Please refer to this page↗️ for examples and troubleshooting steps.

2. Snow or Rain Recognized as Objects

➜ Snow, rain, or other weather conditions may create shapes or movements that are recognized as objects.

Possible cause:
Slow shutter speeds, motion blur, and image pixelation can make rain or snow appear like object-shaped patterns to the analytics system

Troubleshooting:
Please refer to this page↗️ for examples and troubleshooting steps.

3. Light or Lightning Causes Stationary Objects to Be Detected as Moving

➜ Sudden changes in lighting, such as moving lights or lightning, may cause stationary objects to be reported as moving.

Possible cause:
Rapid changes in illumination can temporarily alter the appearance of stationary objects in the camera image.

Troubleshooting:
Please refer to this page↗️ for examples and troubleshooting steps.

4. PTZ Movement Causes Stationary Objects to Be Reported as Moving

➜ During PTZ camera movement, stationary objects may temporarily be detected as moving objects.

Possible cause:
When the camera moves, the entire scene changes from the analytics system's perspective. This can result in stationary objects being temporarily classified as moving.

Troubleshooting:
Please refer to this page↗️ for examples and troubleshooting steps.

⚠️Important Note

False detections can occur under challenging environmental or camera conditions. Adjusting the relevant analytics, camera, and image parameters may help reduce false alerts.
