When connecting a camera for the first time, it can take up to 5 minutes for it to start working. If the video was not starting longer than this, there could be several reasons for this. Some of the most common include:
1. Smart Codec: The camera has the smart codec turned on, causing the video parameters to be too erratic.
2. Upload Speed: The upload speed on site is insufficient to support video streaming.
3. Firewall: A firewall on site is blocking the camera.
4. Configuration Support: The camera does not support the selected resolution and/or FPS configuration.
5. Overload: The camera is connected to other devices, like an NVR, and is overloaded, preventing it from initializing one more connection session.
To troubleshoot connectivity issues, follow these steps:
1. Wait: Allow up to 5 minutes after registering the camera in the admin portal. While waiting, open the troubleshooting tab of the camera in the admin portal and check for any errors. This waiting period is needed for the camera to change the configuration according to the selected billing plan, some cameras can do this change in a few seconds, other cameras will need a few minutes to start streaming with new stream parameters.
2. Verify Network Parameters: Ensure all network parameters are appropriate for the camera location.
3. Check Camera Clock: Ensure the camera clock is set to the correct time and that the camera can update the time from an NTP server.
4. Permissions: Verify that the user used to integrate the camera has Administrator permissions.
5. Restart the Camera: Wait another 3-4 minutes after restarting.
6. Connection Speed Test: Perform a connection speed test from another device connected to the same local network as the camera.
7. NVR Connection: If the camera is connected to an NVR, temporarily disconnect it to verify the NVR is not causing the problem, then restart the camera again after disconnecting from the NVR.
