Recording by camera events only

You can choose from two options of archive storage:
1. Store everything for a specified duration of time.

2. Store only when there is motion or other ONVIF event detected by the camera.

⚠️IMPORTANT: The motion events option should be used with extreme care as it can lead to lost archive chunks due to a multitude of factors ranging from internet connectivity issues to incorrect camera sensitivity setup. If for any reason the timestamp for the event start has not reached our servers the archive chunk for such event will be deleted without the possibility to restore it in the future.

When the Motion Events option is selected our servers will delete all footage for which there is no event start information from the camera. Events that can be used for this option include but are not limited to: Motion detection,

  • Line Crossing,
  • Intrusion detection,
  • Tampering detection,
  • People detection,
  • etc.

The camera detector configuration does not have to be ONVIF compliant but the camera should be sending the event information according to ONVIF specifications. For example, on Axis cameras Motion detection cannot be configured using ONVIF protocols but the information about the event that the camera is sending out is ONVIF compliant and thus this camera module can be used as a trigger for Motion Events recording.

Considerations when configuring Motion Events recording

  1. Configure the camera detector according to the location to minimize the number of false events but at the same time to ensure that the camera won't miss any real events.
  2. We limit both minimum and maximum event duration. No event can be longer than 2 minutes, if the activity in front of the camera is continuous then every two minutes a new event will be started. For cameras that do not provide the information about the event end time, the minimum event duration is locked at 30 seconds, but if the event continues then the event will be extended for up to 2 minutes.
  3. Using multiple detectors on the camera simultaneously is permitted but make sure that you configure both detectors accordingly. In some cases, the camera won't allow the user to activate more than one detector at the same time.
  4. There are NO traffic savings when you set the Recording to Motion Events only option. Our servers will still be connected to the camera 24x7 and the camera will be streaming, in other words - using traffic continuously.
