When aiming for successful license plate recognition, the camera's position plays a pivotal role. Consider the following key factors:
1. Camera Placement for Optimal Recognition
Position the camera to obtain a clear, direct view of the license plate. Aim for an angle that maximizes visibility and ensures accurate recognition.
2. Adequate Pixel Width
For effective recognition, ensure the license plate occupies at least 100 pixels in width. This ensures that the necessary details are captured for precise identification. You can use any camera resolution as long as the required pixel count on the license can be achieved.
3. Single-Line License Plates for Now
Currently, the system recognizes only single-line license plates. However, keep an eye out for upcoming updates that will include multi-line license plate recognition in the near future.
4. Image Contrast and Camera Settings
Achieve good contrast in the image for optimal recognition. Adjust camera settings by opting for a low-motion-blur mode and setting the shutter speed to at least 1/100 or faster.
5. The license plate must be visible to the camera for more than 1 second. If the car is passing in front of the camera faster the plates won't be recognized.
Enabling License Plate Recognition in Your VMS Software
To activate the License Plate Recognition (LPR) feature on your camera, follow these steps:
Step 1: Choose the Right Billing Plan
Switch the camera to a billing plan with Analytics. Look for plans that include "+ Analytics" in their name. This step ensures the integration of analytics capabilities.Step 2: Create an Analytical Rule for LPR:
Navigate to the Analytics tab and create an analytical rule. Select the License Plate checkbox from the list of objects and click on the Save button. This step configures the camera for license plate recognition.Step 3: Check Billing Information
After creating an analytical rule for LPR, the camera will be associated with a billing plan that includes the LPR addon. Check the Plan tab for fixed plans or expect the addon cost to be included in the final invoice for Pay as you go plans.Step 4: Adjust LPR Addon Cost
If needed, customize the cost of the LPR addon in the Billing tab of the account menu. This adjustment impacts the total cost for cameras on Pay as you go plans. For cameras on fixed plans, disable and re-enable the LPR addon to update the plan's cost accordingly.By following these simple steps, you can seamlessly enable license plate recognition on your VMS software, enhancing the capabilities of your surveillance system.
