Edge recording requirements and configuration

Currently, Edge recording can only be enabled on a per-camera basis. So, you'll need to submit a ticket with the camera IDs for which you want to enable this feature. In addition, there are specific requirements that must be met to ensure the edge recording recovery works correctly.

Common requirements:

  1. The device must comply with ONVIF profile G. For more information on Profile G, please refer to this article↗️
  2. The device clock must be configured correctly for the location of the camera, ideally using NTP synchronization.
  3. The cloud must use the same streaming channel as the locally stored data.
  4. The upload speed must be at least double what the current device configuration requires. For instance, if there are 5 cameras on site, each streaming at 1 Mbps, the upload speed must be greater than 10 Mbps. Otherwise, the edge recovery feature may cause problems with live streams.

 Camera-specific requirements:

  1. The camera must be configured to save the same stream to the SD card as the one used on the cloud.
  2. The SD card must have enough storage capacity to record for the maximum anticipated duration of an internet connection outage.

NVR-specific requirements:

  1. The camera must be configured to integrate using the ONVIF protocol on the NVR.
  2. The NVR (not the individual camera) must be connected to the cloud, and the cloud configuration must be set to utilize the same streaming channel used for NVR storage.

⚠️ Note: When integrating cameras into the NVR, it is strongly recommended to use the RTSP (Generic) method, or at minimum, the ONVIF protocol

Once all the requirements are met, kindly provide us with the camera ID, and we will proceed to enable the Edge recording feature on it.

Please note that the edge recovery process may take some time, and the duration of recovery depends on the size of the gap in the archive. The recovery speed is set at 1X, meaning that it will take at least one hour to recover one hour of missing footage, and at least one day to recover one day of missing footage. Additionally, some time is required to initiate the footage recovery process. Hence, even if there is only a one-minute gap in the cloud archive, it will take approximately one hour to complete the recovery of that missing minute.
