Admin Portal not able to add camera due to "illegal login lock"

If a camera has the "Illegal Login Lock" feature enabled, it will lock itself after a certain number of incorrect login attempts to prevent brute-force password attacks. During this period, the user will be unable to access the camera, even with the correct credentials. The lockout duration may vary, lasting anywhere from 15 minutes to several hours.

When adding a camera to the Admin Portal, the user may forget to configure the ONVIF user on the camera or enter an incorrect password in the portal. Since our platform automatically makes multiple connection attempts, these mistakes can cause the camera to lock itself.

As a result, even after the user corrects the ONVIF configuration or password, the camera may remain locked until the lockout period expires. The camera can then be added to the Admin Portal once access is restored.

There are a few ways to address this situation:

To prevent the camera from locking again, first disable it in the Admin Portal to stop the platform from attempting to connect to it.

  • If the ONVIF user is already enabled: Disable the camera in the Admin Portal and wait for the lockout period to expire. Then, update the password using the Troubleshooting tab.
  • If the ONVIF user is not enabled: Create an ONVIF user through the camera's WebUI and reboot the camera to save the changes. Then, open the camera settings in the Admin Portal and update the credentials.

In some cases, rebooting the camera may remove the lockout. Otherwise, you may need to wait for the lockout period to expire or perform a factory reset. Depending on the camera's brand and model, it may also be possible to disable the Illegal Login Lock feature.

For example, Hikvision cameras may support specific procedures for disabling the Illegal Login Lock feature.
