3dEYE supports local video storage through the 3dEYE Gateway, providing a way to preserve video when a camera temporarily loses connectivity to the cloud. This capability is different from an automatic “buffer‑and‑backfill” system, and it is important to understand how each workflow behaves.
Local recording with the 3dEYE Gateway
When cameras are connected through a 3dEYE Gateway, the Gateway can be configured to record video locally.
This provides an additional layer of video availability in situations where the connection between the Gateway and the 3dEYE cloud is temporarily interrupted.
For example:
- The camera sends video to the 3dEYE Gateway.
- The Gateway records video locally.
- Internet connectivity to the 3dEYE cloud is interrupted.
- Local recording can continue on the Gateway (depending on configuration).
- Once connectivity is restored, locally stored footage can be accessed or recovered according to the configured workflow.
The Gateway may use a different stream or recording quality for local storage, depending on the deployment requirements.
Is this an automatic cloud backfill?
No. The 3dEYE Gateway does not function as an automatic continuous buffer‑and‑backfill system.
It is not designed to:
Detect extended internet outages
Continuously accumulate all missing cloud footage
Automatically upload the entire backlog to the cloud once connectivity returns
Why?
Automatically uploading large amounts of video after a long outage could overwhelm the network at the exact moment connectivity is recovering. To avoid this, 3dEYE uses a controlled recovery workflow rather than automatic backfill.
The Gateway provides local recording and recovery, but the exact recovery process depends on:
Deployment architecture
Storage configuration
Customer requirements
Camera SD-card recording
Many cameras support local SD‑card recording. When cloud connectivity is unavailable:
The camera continues recording to its SD card.
Footage remains stored locally on the camera.
Accessing or recovering that footage would generally require working directly with the camera rather than relying on 3dEYE to automatically retrieve and backfill the recording into the cloud.
